Limone Piemonte was originally a summer resort, built towards the end of the nineteenth century. Then, at the beginning of the twentieth century, it became one of the first Italian locations to which the practice of winter sports spread. The old town centre has retained all the charm of the ancient village, with stone buildings, and narrow streets that wind through flowered balconies and characteristic views.

The town has a well-equipped sports centre and an extensive network of trails suitable both for lovers of easy walks, such as the one leading to Chris Bangle's “Big Bench”, and for expert hikers. There are numerous cycling routes, mainly in the Colle di Tenda area, on the border with France. The best known of these is the Alta Via del Sale route, which leads to the sea of Ventimiglia.

The Riserva Bianca ski area spans 80 kilometres, offering slopes of varying difficulties, and is served by no less than 17 ski lifts. The riding area, a short walk from the centre, caters for children and beginners. The area has a rich offering of winter activities: alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ski mountaineering, snowshoeing, a skating rink, freeride and snowmobiling.

The unmissable Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Pietro in Vincoli is one of the best preserved examples of medieval architecture in the area, and the Museo dello Sci, with exhibits attesting to the birth and development of the practice of this sport in Limone is also worth a visit. The oldest festival staged in Limone, the Abaiya, dates back to 1529, when it celebrated the many groups of muleteers who transported goods over the hill in the age of the county of Tenda. The historic Cuneo-Ventimiglia-Nice railway, an authentic masterpiece of engineering, was listed as a “Place of the Heart” by the Italian Environmental Fund in 2020.

An ideal tourist centre for families, Limone, assigned an orange flag by the Italian Touring Club, has a well-organized, dynamic tourism structure: the Tourist Office, the civic library, a cinema-theatre, quality accommodation facilities, bars, restaurants, pizzerias, spas and shops all offer tourists opportunities for recreation and relaxation.
