LAKE TERRASOLE IN LIMONE PIEMONTE

Terrasole, an iconic heart-shaped lake, is located in Limone Piemonte, in the Vermenagna Valley. One of the most popular excursion destinations of Cuneo in summer, it can be reached on foot from the centre of the village or using a convenient cable car. In summer, thanks to a floating stage, it becomes a theatre for atmospheric open-air concerts. Let's get to know an area rich in hiking trails, history and tradition in a vibrant, welcoming village, ideal for an outdoor holiday.

Limonetto

Fresh air, flowery meadows, a horizon jagged with Alpine peaks: it is in this setting that we find Lake Terrasole, nestled between the mountains, looking towards Monviso. You are in Limone Piemonte, pearl of the Maritime Alps, and internationally renowned tourist resort.

Hiking is one of the many summer activities that Limone offers, with a variety of routes suitable for all types of walkers. If you are going on a family holiday, the hike to Lake Terrasole is definitely the most suitable. After a visit to the Tourist Office in the town centre, where you can pick up a map of the trails and learn how to use the handy interactive map with your smartphone, you are ready to embark on the approximately two and a half hour walk to the lake. The partially shaded route runs partly on a path and partly on a dirt road and features an altitude difference of 700 metres.

The lake, with its clear, cool waters, only reveals itself at the last moment. On hot summer days, the bravest visitors dive in for a refreshing dip. If the route seems too challenging, no problem, the cable car will take you up from the village and on arrival all you have to do is walk for twenty minutes to the lake. And if you're lucky you're in for a treat: a concert from the summer festival 'Note d'Acqua'.

There are many activities you can do in Limone: mountain biking, horse riding, climbing, via ferrata, in an alpine setting close to the sea. Admire the 19th-century forts of the Tenda Pass dominated by the imposing Rocca dell'Abisso and have some fun spotting the friendly marmots of Limonetto. The town, full of shops, bars and restaurants promoting the Piedmontese gastronomic tradition, can be reached by train, and from here, again by train, you can spend a day at the seaside on the Ligurian Riviera, in Montecarlo or on the nearby Côte d'Azur.
