MEMO4345 - BORGO SAN DALMAZZO DEPORTATION MEMORIAL

MEMO4345 is a historical and educational multimedia itinerary that guides visitors as they learn about and reflect on the essential elements of the Shoah in Europe. It also offers an insight into the history of the 357 Jews (334 foreigners, 23 Italians) deported to Auschwitz from the concentration camp active in the city between September 1943 and February 1944. MEMO4345 is a space in which visitors can learn, understand, remember and reflect. Between 8 September 1943 and the Liberation, the early 20th century European history of anti-Jewish persecution passed through Borgo San Dalmazzo and the valleys that flow into it, led by people whose lives affected those of the inhabitants of these places. Here, visitors will find answers to the questions about what happened there arising after a stop at the Deportation Memorial, and be guided as they learn about and reflect on the essential elements of the Shoah in Europe.

MEMO4345 is an encounter with the people of back then, but also with the people of today, a story of journeys on earth and in the human soul. As time went on, the period from 1870 to 1945, which preceded and hosted the tragedy of the Shoah, was mirrored by the years from 1946 to 2020, in which many of those same ideologies reappeared. The exhibition plunges the visitor into the realisation of this similarity and calls upon him or her to reflect on it.

MEMO4345 is an itinerary dedicated to the memory of the Jews who passed through here. It addresses all those who feel duty bound to know about and remember the steps that led to the Shoah and responsible for oppose them wherever they may reoccur. As the Righteous did.

For primary and middle school students: role-playing game entitled “What if I were...? “, focusing on the use of empathy as a compass for orienting our choices. (expected duration max 60 minutes)

For secondary school students: The “Let's discover the secret of the righteous together” game invites students to investigate the righteous, identifying and collectively discussing the motivations which in certain situations may lead “normal” human beings to make choices that go against the grain, are self-detrimental and, in extreme cases, might even put their lives at risk. (max expected duration: 90 minutes)
