CRAVA MOROZZO NATURE RESERVE

The Crava Morozzo Nature Reserve has protected one of the most significant wetland areas in southern Piedmont since 1987. In the 286 hectares of protected territory, cultivated and natural environments alternate with streams, two artificial basins - the Crava and Morozzo lakes - and four ponds.

The many different types of environment present, in particular the aquatic areas, have encouraged numerous species of birds to stop and settle there: to date over two hundred species have been registered, about fifty of which nest in the area. Crava-Morozzo is an area of high biodiversity which, was chosen by the LIPU (Italian League for the Protection of Birds) as early as in 1979, as the venue for the establishment of the association's first natural oasis.

The association collaborates with the Ente Aree Protette Alpi Marittime which manages the Reserve, opening the visitor and information centre and organising a variety of entertainment activities.

Crava-Morozzo is a point of reference throughout Europe for birdwatchers. The best seasons for this activity are autumn and early spring, but there is no shortage of opportunities to make interesting observations at any time of the year. To facilitate the bird-watching activities, the reserve and the Italian League for Bird Protection have set up several huts, one of which is partially submerged, also allowing you to see the fish in the small lake it overlooks.

Inside the reserve there is an accommodation facility owned by the Aree Protette Alpi Marittime: the Oasis guesthouse, which allows visitors to stay in natural surroundings, serviced with bar and restaurant services.

Admission to the reserve and its observation huts is free all year round for visitors on foot, horseback or bicycle, while access to motor vehicles is always prohibited (with the sole exception of guests stay overnight at the Oasis Guesthouse, people with disabilities and others authorized by management).

Admission to the Reserve:

Crava: entrance along State Road 120, after the bridge over the Pesio;

Morozzo: entrance along Provincial Road 422, on the far side of the “Gazzola” fuel station forecourt;

Morozzo: disabled access along Via Mondovì.
