The ancient Parrocchiale dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo is considered the artistic and architectural jewel of Verzuolo. The building existed in the enclosure of the ancient village at the foot of the castle from the middle of the eleventh century. The bell tower and the cell at its base, decorated with the Stories of San Nicola di Bari, date back to the period between the 11th and 12th centuries.
In the mid-fifteenth century, the original layout was transformed into a single nave and the numerous frescoes date back to this period. The church preserves a precious series of fresco cycles: the Stories of San Nicola dating back to the Ottonian era, the Stories of Sant'Antonio Abate and the Madonna and Child on the altar, from fifteenth century Saluzzo, as well as a series of later decorations from the neo-Gothic period.
In 1819, the seat of the parish was transferred to the church downstream. The old parish church was abandoned and has only been used occasionally since then.
