The Mongia river, which rises at the foot of Mount Mindino, divides Viola into two hamlets. On one side we find Borgo Castello, where you can still see signs of the ancient fortress and a large area of chestnut groves with many centuries-old trees. They have been well-cared for over the years, recently becoming a real tourist attraction, together with the area’s characteristic scau, the characteristic buildings used for drying chestnuts. The capital on the other bank is where the Parrocchiale di San Giorgio is located, founded around 1190.

St. Grée in the municipality of Viola is a tourist resort immersed in the splendour of the Maritime Alps. Its upward ski lifts climb the slopes of Bric Nei. On the other side, you can make out the profiles of Mount Antoroto, Moune Galero and the Rocca dei Corvi, which all offer various hiking trails, both in winter and in summer. The ski area includes 12 km of downhill tracks at from 1,100 to 1,740 meters above sea level. There is also a skating rink at the bottom of the valley.

During summer, St. Grée is the perfect destination for enjoying a few days of relaxation away from the heat. It offers no shortage of trekking routes, as well as many opportunities to practise sporting activities in contact with nature. For cycling enthusiasts, there is a bike park with four downhill slopes and a via ferrata to Rocca dei Corvi.

The Santuario della Madonna della Neve, for centuries a place of pilgrimage for the people of the Mongia and Casotto valleys, is a highly recommended stop . The surrounding environment is full of chestnut trees, providing a natural habitat for mushrooms, and the ideal location for relaxing walks. Nearby, the Vicardo spring is renowned for its fresh, naturally healthy water. Other itineraries are suitable for excursions and walks from Viola Castello to the San Giacomo hill or towards Rocca dei Corvi. Visiting the chapel and Grotta di San Giovanni and the Big Bench at Bricco del Monte are another two essential stops for visitors.
