Lagnasco is a small agricultural village in the heart of the Saluzzo plain. On the western edge of the Po Valley, surrounded and protected by the Cuneo mountain ranges, the countryside explodes in spring, when the flowering fruit trees transform the rural environment into an expanse of colours and scents.

The majestic complex of the Castelli dei Marchesi Tapparelli d’Azeglio rises in the centre of the town. It includes three different buildings built at the end of the 11th century at the behest of the Marquises of Busca, and developed until the 18th century. Official residence of the Tapparelli lordship from the second half of the 14th century, they underwent a refined architectural and artistic renovation in the 16th century, at the behest of Benedetto I Tapparelli.

The guided tour winds through Renaissance frescoes inspired by classical mythology, coffered ceilings frescoed with the emblems of the nobility of the time and mysterious Nordic-inspired grotesques. The Sala della Giustizia, perhaps the most spectacular point of the itinerary, is completely decorated with frescoes and stuccos, and celebrates the moral qualities that inspired Benedetto Tapparelli in his role as judge of Saluzzo.

A few metres from the Complesso dei Castelli dei Tapparelli d’Azeglio is the Parrocchia di Santa Maria delle Grazie, the parish church. It overlooks Piazza Umberto I, the main village meeting place and venue of “Fruttinfiore”, the event dedicated to the best local fruit production. Today, Lagnasco’s vocation continues, combining the ancient traditions and values of the territory with the innovations brought by modern agriculture.
