MOMBRACCO MTB RING TRAIL

15 km

The Trappa, the ancient Charterhouse of Mount Bracco is the final destination of this climb, stretching 15 km on asphalt and dirt roads, offering an opportunity to admire the historical and environmental beauties of this ancient mountain. We start from Barge, where we climb the steep road that takes us to the Charterhouse, then descend on the ridge of Mount Bracco to Pian San Michele, here we will continue until we reach Torriana and finally complete the ring trail, returning to the village of Barge. A route suitable for everyone, and recommended for beginner mountain bikers aiming to tackle their first off-road descents. More daring, experienced riders can test their skills using a Gravel bike.

The full route is about 15 km long, with an elevation gain of over 700 metres. It is an itinerary that we recommend you tackle with a front or full MTB or e-bike as the terrain it features is mostly unpaved and bumpy.

You will start your ascent from Piazza Stazione in Barge. Ride along Viale Stazione, Via Crosia and Via Gallo, then enter the historic centre and follow Via Carle Costanzo to Piazza San Rocco. Now continue towards Paesana, first on via Giolitti and then on a stretch of via Paesana. About one km before Mondarello, turn left onto Via Monte Bracco.

In about 5 km of paved road with gradients of up to 12% you will reach the Certosa della Trappa at 929 metres above sea level (fountain). Now continue beyond the trattoria on via Castello and, after passing some houses, you’ll reach the first junction where you turn left (MTB signs). Continue on this magnificent stretch with a view of the Monviso chain and the Po valley. Start your descent, staying on the main dirt road and ignoring the secondary diversions. After passing some abandoned “meire” and a votive pillar, you will finally reach Pian San Michele.

Now turn right, continuing on a forest track that will take you to Torriana (from which the famous grey apple takes its name). Having reached the fields of Torriana, continue beyond its ponds in a north-westerly direction. Leave the asphalt trail, pass the votive pillar of the Madonna and Child and on a dirt track you’ll reach the Cappella di San Pietro Martire. Continue on the dirt road until you reach the Santuario di Madonna delle Combe, where a fountain and an equipped area are located. Set off again on the paved road until you pass the bridge over the Ghiandone. From here, continue on the provincial road through the town of Barge and then complete the ring by turning left into Piazza San Rocco.

If you want to visit the ruins of the Castello Superiore of Barge, instead of crossing the Ghiandone, climb on the path indicated by the signs and, after a few stretches of “portage” you will get as far as the remains of the manor. From here, you will descend on a mule track passing the Cappella di San Giacomo, arriving directly at the Castello Inferiore of Barge. Then, following via Carle Costanzo and via Gallo, you will get straight to via Torino, and so your starting point, in Piazza Stazione.
