The full route ahead of you is about 55 km long, with an elevation gain of approximately 390 metres. It is a circular itinerary that starts and ends at the same point, crossing the countryside and the most beautiful, striking hills in the province of Cuneo.

The route starts from Fossano, from the square in front of the station, and heads towards Salmour. From the square, take Via Cavour, then at the roundabout go straight ahead and then turn right into Viale Martiri dell'Indipendenza. You will pass very near to the Castello dei Principi degli Acaja, one of the symbolic monuments of Fossano. The Castello dei Principi d'Acaja is a historic building in Fossano; it stands out majestically in the homonymous town square, characterising the urban landscape.

At the intersection, continue straight on along Via Craveri until the end of the road where you will turn right onto Via Narzole. A short descent will take you out of the centre of Fossano onto Via Salmour, which has a fairly regular surface. Ride it all the way, for about 6 km, until you reach Salmour, a small village with an ancient history dating back to the beginning of the 10th century, when Emperor Ludovico III donated this territory to the Bishop of Asti.

After passing through Salmour, continue along Via Narzole, pass the hamlet of Sant'Antonino and reach Narzole after about 8 km. At the crossroads, turn left onto Via Umberto I and take the first street you find on your right. From here, take the historical-archaeological itinerary, which will lead you through the countryside to Bene Vagienna, the ancient Augusta Bagiennorum. A few kilometres before the town on your right you can admire the remains of the Roman theatre and amphitheatre inside the Riserva Naturale Speciale of Bene Vagienna.
The archaeological itinerary is about 800 m long and it is supported by a series of general (cartography of the excavations, history) and specific (description of the most significant Roman buildings) educational panels.

The double denomination of the Roman city, Augusta Bagiennorum, refers us to the history of its origins: in fact it is thought to be a centre built in the territory of the Ligurian Bagienni on which a colony founded in the Augustan period, would be built around 25 BC. It spanned the area between the Stura di Demonte and the Tanaro and its citizens were members of the Camilia tribe. It would therefore have been a city characterized by scattered and not centralized settlements in the city, as would seem apparent from its modest size. It was connected to two other towns of more ancient foundation via the Via della Valle del Tanaro. These were Pollentia (Pollenzo) and Alba Pompeia (Alba), with which it shared about three centuries of flourishing life.

Once you’ve reached the centre of Bene Vagienna, at the roundabout continue on Via Carrù: you’ll cover about 10 km of asphalted road, with a fairly regular surface, pedalling slightly uphill, before you reach Carrù. At the crossroads, turn right and at the roundabout a few hundred metres on, take the first right and continue towards Trinità di Fossano. Be careful as these roads can be rather busy.

Having reached and passed through Trinità, continue towards Sant'Albano Stura: at the crossroads, turn right and take Via Circonvallazione Barbero. After a few kilometres, take Via Mondovì and climb for a short stretch until you return to the gates of Fossano. At the roundabout go straight on and take the first street on your right, Via Nazario Sauro. At the next roundabout, turn right, ride past the flyover and turn left along via Giuseppe Verdi to the car point, the arrival point of your tour.
