TOWN TOWER - SAVIGLIANO

The tower that we see today is the result of complex constructive interventions built one on top of the other over the centuries. The thirteenth century is usually identified as the period of its initial construction, when the local aristocrats erected a tower to defend their faction. It is one of the few medieval defence towers that populated the urban panorama of Savigliano still standing today. In 1303 the municipality entrusted the tower to the founders of Casana or Monte dei Pegni who elevated the building, completing its current portion of exposed brick. In 1447 the municipality reclaimed the tower and in 1535 built the upper part to replace a spire erected in 1465.
