The fortifications of Vinadio are one of the most important examples of military architecture in the entire Alpine region. The construction of Fort Albertino was planned during the reign of Charles Albert of Savoy; it was supposed to be an impregnable fortress to defend the border between the Piedmontese state and France, but was never the scene of clashes. The fort was downgraded in the early 20th century when it was turned into a huge warehouse. It then became a military dovecote. Its use ended after the end of World War II.

The Fort hosts three visit areas, as well as specific routes for families.

The multimedia itinerary Montagna in Movimento (Mountains in Motion), which stretches along the upper front of the fort, tells the story of the Maritime Alps in an innovative way, not to be missed.

The second venue is called Messaggeri Alati (Winged Messengers). This multimedia exhibition is dedicated to the military dovecote that was present in the fort until 1944.

The third part is called Vinadio Virtual Reality. This is a flight simulation allowing visitors to discover glimpses of the architecture and particular areas used by soldiers and civilians during the Great War. A brand new experience called Giallo Forte was recently launched. Here the visitor is accompanied by the narrative voice of an army officer who has committed a crime in an electrifying spy story.

Since May 2025, a new tour route has been open to the public, accessible to both deaf individuals (signing and non-signing) and hearing visitors: "Oltre le barriere. La storia del Forte in LIS" (Beyond Barriers: The History of the Fort in LIS.) Five video guides can be downloaded directly from the official website or accessed by scanning QR codes on dedicated panels along the path. These guides provide explanations in Italian Sign Language (LIS), complete with subtitles and Italian voice-over.

The project is the result of a collaboration between the Municipality of Vinadio, the Artea Foundation, and the Turin Institute for the Deaf, and was designed "to overcome communication and psycho-sensory barriers."

The 2026 season includes new initiatives dedicated to universal accessibility, families, and sustainability: "A piccoli passi nel Forte" (Small Steps in the Fort ): launching in August, this project will make the "Moving Mountain" multimedia tour accessible to families with children aged 0-3.

"Fiori nei cannoni " (Flowers in the Cannons): part of the Fort’s defensive system will be transformed into an ecological oasis for bees and pollinating insects. This area, filled with nectar-rich plants and flowers, will be fully accessible and enjoyable for all visitors.

The Info Point offers a wi-fi space and relaxation area in the renovated premises in Piazza Vittorio Veneto during the same opening hours as the Fortress. (Hourly extension from June to September).
