The territory of San Michele Mondovì is the gateway to the Corsaglia and Casotto valleys. The small town, of Lombard origin, immediately welcomes you with its colourful noble palaces and  elegant high arcades lining the main street. On the same street, the Palazzo del Re , which now houses a modern hotel, was once where the Savoy family - in particular Vittorio Emanuele II - stopped during their travels to the Casotto Palace.

The nineteenth-century town hall, the parish church dated 1710 - which houses interesting sacred works of art by local painters - and a small botanical garden with edible, dyeing and ornamental plants are found in a slightly elevated position. The remains of the ancient castle watch over the whole inhabited area.

Outside the centre, in addition to the fine Chiesa di San Paolo in the San Paolo hamlet, there are eleven country chapels with frescoes dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, some of which can also be easily reached along the Sentiero Landandè. The red "petals", special route markers, lead visitors to the top of the hill, where one of these little jewels is located: the Cappella di San Giovanni.

This hill affords a splendid view of the valley, in particular from the blue and white giant bench by Chris Bangle. The Capella della Bicocca di San Giacomo is another noteworthy chapel of great historical value. In 1796, this place was the site of a battle between the Piedmontese and Napoleonic armies, a bloody event to which Carducci dedicated his famous ode.

One of the most prominent citizens of San Michele was, without doubt, the internationally renowned trumpeter Nini Rosso who became famous in the 60s thanks to Il Silenzio, song that took him to the top of the charts and on tour in northern Europe and even in Japan. A lively musical event is held in his honour every year.
