MARTINIANA PO

LAND OF TINY FRUITS

The municipality of Martiniana Po, located in a slightly elevated woodland area, offers many opportunities to enjoy the splendid views afforded by the Stone King, Mount Monviso. The blueberry is just one of the local excellences to which the traditional Sagra dei Piccoli Frutti is dedicated.

The municipality of Martiniana Po offers a beautiful view of the Saluzzo plain and Mount Monviso, known locally as the Stone King. The old town centre welcomes you to the village, where you immediately come across the impressive Baroque building of Palazzo Filippa. In the centre, Piazza Gauthier hosts the birthplace of Giovanni Borgna, a prolific painter who, having attended the Albertina Accademia in Turin as a very young man, worked intensively on the decoration of numerous sacred buildings ranging from southern Piedmont to Liguria.

The Chiesa Parrocchiale di Sant’Andrea , built in the eighteenth century, was built on the ruins of an ancient medieval church. The base of the bell tower is that of the original parish church, while the interior decorations in Baroque style notably include a remarkable baptismal font in white marble, some splendid frescoes of the presbytery and a wooden door created in 1700.

The lands of Martiniana Po also produce sweet delicacies celebrated during the Sagra dei Piccoli Frutti, an event that pays homage to the local productions of blueberries, raspberries, black and redcurrants and gooseberries. During the event, which takes place in the first half of July, visitors can buy and taste the local forest fruits at stalls that never fail to draw crowds. The aim of the festival is to promote and develop the culture, history and traditions of the country.
