SAN LORENZO LAKES RING TRAIL - FOSSANO

19,5 km

A very interesting cycling route, suitable for everyone, that allows you to observe some of the historical and naturalistic emergencies in the surroundings of Fossano. It spans the flat area north of the city, between Santa Lucia, San Lorenzo and Cussanio. The ride is also over a very easy surface; it is mainly on asphalt, but the roads are secondary and so fairly free from motor vehicles. The orchards, nature areas, different religious sites and - with a bit of luck - also the western Alpine arc will accompany us along the itinerary. The first part develops around the town of Fossano and after a while we exit towards the open countryside, where the route is well-signposted.

The ring trail covers a total distance of 19.5 km with a very limited elevation gain; almost the entire route is flat and there are no challenging climbs. The road surface is almost always asphalt and in a few stretches there are dirt roads or gravel paths. You can therefore tackle it with any type of MTB or e-bike, or even a gravel bike. Despite the little physical effort required, the variety of landscapes and places observed is truly exceptional.

The itinerary starts from Piazza J.F. Kennedy, in front of the train station. Take via Fiume, then via Paglieri and continue straight ahead, on Via Salita Salice. After passing the Naviglio canal, you must turn left and follow the watercourse until you turn onto Via Orfanotrofio. At the roundabout continue on Viale della Repubblica then turn left in Via Santa Lucia.

As soon as you pass the “Balocco” plant, take the cycle path and continue straight on until you reach the Cappella di Santa Lucia

Keep going through the fields as far as the birthplace of Don Alberione. Here, facing the F42 signpost, turn left and go slightly downhill, next to the lake of San Lorenzo and, on a dirt road, continue straight on until you come across the Strada Reale, which connects Fossano and Marene. Shortly before it, continue towards Fossano along this track and follow it in the direction of San Lorenzo. Take the paved road towards Genola, which you’ll follow for about 2 km, then turn left on to the strada della Bossola (signpost F38). Head straight on, ignoring all the detours until you reach the Santuario di Cussanio. Turning back for a short distance, skirt the railway and continue along the fields to the Cappella della Madonna dei Campi. Once you reach the F33 signpost, return to the strada della Bossola. Pass two roundabouts and, at the third one, turn left to return to Fossano, where the tour ends.
