The itinerary starts in the Barchi hamlet, 5 km before Ormea, across from the train tracks and the Tanaro River. Just over the bridge, you will find a parking area on the right, across from a monument to fallen soldiers where there is also a table.

Head between the houses of the village (fountain) and past the church until you reach a bridge across a stream. Just across the bridge, you will find a nice playground after a statue with a fountain.

Now take the paved road to the left (wood sign and short stick) and continue straight and slightly uphill until you pass a cemetery where the road turns to stone slabs. When the road turns into a cement ramp at a fork in the road, keep to the left (wood sign) and follow the dirt road until an evident curve near some large boulders. Keep to the left again here (short stick). You will reach a lovely stone bridge overlooking a pleasant pool that is easily accessible. The dirt road continues upward for a bit to reach the highest point of the itinerary at an altitude of 900 m (2,955 ft). From here, descend slightly to a lovely, abandoned village. Go around this village to the left.

Note: It’s best not to linger near the buildings here due to the risk they could collapse.

Leave the village behind you as you enter a lovely wooded area featuring majestic chestnut trees. Children will love these trees for their curious shapes, looking a bit like sleeping monsters. Continue along the trail through the woods until you find a pile of rocks indicating the route for the descent. Take the uphill trail to the right until you reach the base of the rock atop which the tower rises up to the sky and where you will also find a bench.

CAUTION: The route from this point on may be dangerous for small children, as the exposed rock ledge is protected only by a chain to your left. The climb is not particularly difficult, but being exposed, and having to use the chain to climb up, it could be dangerous for younger children not used to this sort of situation. Use your best judgment based on the abilities of your own children. The climb will take you up to within view of the tower, the base of which can now be easily reached along a wooden walkway. There is an opening to the inside of the tower, although the best thing about this spot is the spectacular view out over the Tanaro Valley, a view that must not be all that different from the one enjoyed by the original inhabitants of this place, given that the dense, impenetrable forests still envelop the surrounding hillside.

For the return trip, head back down the same way you came up until you reach the pile of rocks from before. Here, take the trail to the right, which will take you steeply down through the chestnut forest without any forks in the trail. When you see a few vegetable gardens, you are nearly back at the village of Barchi. Enter the village along a grassy track. When you reach the cement, turn steeply downhill to the left to get to a fountain. Here, turn left and head to the bridge that will take you back to the paved road from the outbound trip. Take this road downhill to the right and you will soon be back at the playground and then at the starting point.
