CHURCH OF SANTA MARIA ASSUNTA - ELVA

A pristine valley in the shade of the Pelvo d'Elva is the natural setting for a masterpiece of human ingenuity: the frescoes by Hans Clemer in the presbytery of the chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta (featuring different scenes from the life of Mary, the childhood of Christ and a dynamic Crucifixion). Built in the 13th century and expanded in the 15th, the building has a late-Romanesque structure that also embraces Gothic influences, especially in the sculptures.
