A characteristic village perched on the mountains of Val Corsaglia, Montaldo di Mondovì boasts particularly ancient origins, evidenced by the discovery of important finds dating back to the Iron Age, when shepherds and farmers of the Ligures Montani lineage inhabited these lands. The name of Montaldo appeared for the first time in the year 1041, in an imperial diploma of Henry III, the Roman Emperor of Germany.

The top of the town, a particularly panoramic spot hosts an interesting archaeological area enriched with panels showing the remains of the medieval castle, and finds dating back to the pre-Roman period. The sixteenth-century Chiesa Parrocchiale dell’Assunta and the Cappella di Santa Elisabetta rise among the sacred buildings, not far from the site. The various areas of the town host many testimonies of faith, like the chapel and hamlet of Torre Sibilla, one of the few medieval remains in Val Corsaglia. The town has been modernized, but still shows signs of its function as a medieval manor.

The town’s numerous small churches line a trail  known as the Via di Culto, a simple circular route walkable in a couple of hours that passes the main chapels in the area. However, this is only one of the many opportunities for hikers in this area, including those at beginner level, such as the simple Giro del Pul, which departs from the hamlet of Sant'Anna Collarea. More experienced walkers and mountain bike enthusiasts can instead tackle itineraries that take several days, such as that of the Balcone Monregalese, the Roa Marenca, or the ancient " via del sale " that once led to the sea, today organized in an exciting 60 km network of surfaced and dirt roads.
