FAMILIES

Please note that itineraries may include roads where motor vehicles are allowed. Authors and trail testers are not responsible for the information contained.

You can make it to Tetti Spa with most types of stroller, but beyond this point you will need a jogging stroller to take on the rougher terrain. For children at that age at which they are too big to be carried in a pack and too small to walk far on their own, the main challenge will be the elevation gain, but with enough patience and time even they can make it to the top.

Keep your eyes open because you will find a fountain after an unusual monument. Before you read the info panels, see if you can guess what it is. You’re not likely to guess, though, because when was the last time you saw a monument to the washing machine?! It makes sense, though, because no other home appliance has done more to change women’s lives so radically. Imagine if we still had to do laundry by hand at an outdoor fountain or stream!

Keep to the left past the fountain to cross the canal again. Now continue straight on (blue sign with various village names, including Tetti Spa). The paved road will start climbing more steeply through a series of switchbacks, leaving the houses behind you as you enter the open pastures and greenery. Shortly after you pass a village (Tetti Borbone), you will find an old yellow sign up a road to your left, but ignore it and keep to the paved road, as this new route is not always clear and evident and fades away after a while. With children in particular, it’s best to do a bit more nice and safe paved road, also because it’s very narrow and so not used much by cars.

As you enter an area of pleasant shade, around the few final curves you’ll get to the outskirts of the village of Tetti Spa. Turn left onto the dirt road that will take you above the houses of the village and into a forest of chestnut trees (brown sign: “capella Assunta”). When you come to an evident fork in the road, keep to the left to climb gradually through the trees and around the summit. After a sharp curve to the right, keep your eyes peeled to the left for a small sign and a few tracks that invite you to leave the main road to discover a white and blue bench—a “Big Bench” in which an adult could sit and feel like a child again!

After enjoying the view out over the lower Valle Stura and Valle dei Colli (lit. “Valley of Hills”) stretching out from Moiola, you can either turn head back the way you came or, better, follow the uphill trail that will take you quickly to your ultimate destination, the chapel of Madonna dell’Assunta (“Our Lady of the Assumption”) atop the hill with a stunning view of the upper Valle Stura.
