Chiusa Pesio chestnuts. An excellence that finds its name in the PGI label for the Cuneo chestnut. It has a good size, sweet and delicate flavour, crunchy texture and light brown skin with darker streaks. This is a gift from the earth, healthy and natural, without any kind of processing. The majestic trees only need pruning and thinning and tending to the undergrowth. Chestnuts are versatile and can be used to prepare many sweet and savoury dishes. It is ideal for making the precious Marron glacé dessert.
Strawberries. Whimsical and seductive, this fruit must first be eaten with the eyes. A safe product, with a strong aroma and good consistency, subject to constant checks before arriving at the table. Quality is the goal of a future oriented agriculture that respects nature. There is a great strawberry festival in Peveragno, in June, called “Sagra della Fragola''.
In this valley you can also find Cuneo PGI beans, berries, Bisalta potatoes, alpine cheeses and trout.
Special local dishes: ola al forno (oven-cooked soup), donderet (type of gnocchi), minestra di castagne (chestnut soup), funghi in umido (stewed mushrooms), salame dolce (chocolate salami), pesche ripiene (stuffed peaches), Marron glacé.
