The Museum is located in Via Roma, in the heart of Fossano, in the premises that once housed the treasury of the Cassa di Risparmio di Fossano. Thanks to an important intervention that aimed to recover the premises, ordered and financially supported by the Cassa di Risparmio di Fossano itself as a work of munificence towards the city, today it preserves samples of Cuneo and Alpine minerals as well as fossil finds from the Langhe and Roero. It also houses specimens from the fossil forest of Fossano and the Rolleri Collection, acquired by the Federico Sacco Foundation, including striking minerals from all over the world.
The common thread between the materials on display is inspired by the figure of Federico Sacco, a distinguished geologist, palaeontologist and glaciologist from Fossano, author of more than 700 publications and maps from between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and one of the noble fathers of the “Geological Map of Italy” which owes much to his contribution.
There is also a didactic section equipped with interactive whiteboards and materials studied ad hoc where the museum will host teachers and speakers on the subject.
