The name Faule probably derives from the Latin term fagus, or beech, the plant depicted in the municipal coat of arms, which once thrived in this alluvial land. Located on flatland with a strong agricultural footprint, the town owes its thriving economy to the cultivation of wheat and corn, favoured by its proximity to the place where the Po converges with the Pellice and Varaita rivers. Today, its territory is part of the Parco del Monviso.

The fourteenth century manor, an example of a characteristic Piedmontese agricultural castle, consists of a central block in brickwork, with two round corner towers. The Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Biagio, built between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, stands a short distance away. At the centre of the facade, a fresco depicts the Madonna with St. Blaise at her feet. The patronal feast of Faule, known as the Festa dei Corpi Santi, is celebrated on the second Sunday of October.

A small eighteenth-century church with a single nave looks on to the main road of the town. It is dedicated to San Rocco, who is recognizable in the fresco, depicted on the facade. The interior is a pleasant example of 18th century late baroque art. The San Rocco brotherhood was created here in 1720, by aggregation with that of Turin, already established in 1598.

The Santuario della Madonna del Lago stands about a kilometre from the town to the west, in a secluded place surrounded by nature. It is housed in a small pre-existing chapel, incorporated into the church around 1780. Inside, a painting depicts the Madonna and Child sitting on a rock in the middle of the lake, with the Alps in the background.

One of the events regularly staged in the town to note in your diary is the annual feast of the bagna caöda, which takes place in October. It celebrates the delicious dip made with garlic, oil and anchovies that accompanies seasonal vegetables: peppers, cardoons, onions, potatoes, and leeks. Thousands of gourmet enthusiasts meet in Faule to savour all the goodness and taste of bagna caöda, and to socialise the traditional way to their heart’s content.
