Precisely opposite the "Stone King" 800 metres lower down, Viso Mozzo ensures a splendid ski mountaineering trip with magnificent scenery extending on one side to the Saluzzo plains and, on the other, to the eastern flank of Monviso. After setting off from Pian della Regina, proceed as far as the Rio dei Quarti valley, progressively entering large moraines and Alpine lakes surrounded by rocky spurs and elegant snow-covered gullies.

From Pian della Regina, cross the bridge over the River Po. Then follow the narrow, slightly uphill road to the ski resorts as far as the way into the Rio dei Quarti Valley. It rises along a kind of gully between rounded boulders and rocky crags.

After reaching Lake Chiaretto along gentler slopes, proceed in a large semicircle to the right, passing near its northern bank. Then return towards Mozzo, always looking out for slopes that are not so steep. Lastly, enter a small valley enclosed by steep moraines giving access at the top to Colle del Viso up a steep slope (be careful on this stretch: it often has deep snow drifts).

Continue along the wide clearing towards the Quintino Sella Refuge and then tackle the slope up to the summit on the right. This culminates at around 2,900 meters on the south ridge that offers easy access to the summit.
