The full route is about 82 km long, with an elevation gain of over 1.780 metres. It is a circular itinerary that starts and ends at the same point, crossing one of the most beautiful and evocative hills in the province of Cuneo.

Leaving the attractive town of Saluzzo, take the Po Valley and after about 30 kilometres, you’ll arrive in the town of Paesana and shortly after in Calcinere, from which the climb to Pian del Re begins.

Once you leave the built-up area, the first stretch of road has easy slopes until you leave the intersection for Oncino on your left. Keep going towards Crissolo: here the slope becomes steeper with an average gain of 10% over the next 5 km.

When you reach the ski resort, the road will flatten out for a few hundred metres. Turn right, following the signs for Pian del Re. The first two kilometres of ascent are regular and constant with a 5% gradient until you reach Serre. From here the road will narrow until it becomes a mountain road and the gain will average around 10%, with peaks of 13%.

Once out of the wooded vegetation, at an altitude of around 1,500 metres, the scenario of the Cottian Alps will open before your eyes, with the King of Stone, the Monviso in the centre.

The Po Natural Park, its springs, and the majesty of the Monviso are tourist-naturalistic attractions with strong appeal, while the villages of Ostana, Oncino and Balma Boves preserve valuable examples of Alpine architecture. Finally, splendid artistic works dating back to the Marquisate of Saluzzo can be admired in the town hall of Revello and at the Cistercian abbey of Staffarda.

In a short time, you will reach Pian della Regina, and continue on a series of clearly visible and challenging hairpin bends leading to Pian del Re with an average gradient of 9.5%.

The former military barracks at the end of the asphalt section will mark the end of your climb and the local hotel and restaurant will allow you a well-deserved rest in the presence of the majestic Monviso.
