BRIGA ALTA, VALLE TANARO
MONTE BERTRAND
VALLE TANARO
Ski mountaineering up to Monte Bertrand is a great classic of the Ligurian Alps: when enjoyed in the middle of winter after the heavy snowfalls characteristic of these mountains, it also offers the chance to ski in powder snow and enjoy views of the Ligurian Sea. The larch forest passed through during the excursion, both uphill and downhill, is one of the southernmost in the Alps and is a unique, fairy-tale setting.

The itinerary is ideal in winter conditions with powdery snow as well as firm snow, without waiting too long for the season to progress; in both cases, pay close attention to the drifts that often form along the final ridge, often battered by the wind.

From Upega, set off across the bridge immediately after the square, follow the narrow road along the stream as far as several huts and a small chapel. Pass by here and keep low down. On coming up to a ridge, follow it until meeting the mule track which continues on the right, skirting around a fir wood.
Proceed further into the beautiful Navette Forest, always entirely exposed to the north, reaching the vicinity of the ridge, taking care over possible snow drifts, leading up to the summit.
Descend along the outward route or the many possible alternatives offered by this vast and beautiful forest, all of which easily identified during the ascent.
