The full route ahead of you is about 67 km long, with an elevation gain of approximately 1,740 metres. This is a round trip itinerary, suitable for cyclists with good skills. We recommend you tackle it with a front or full MTB or e-bike, which are more suitable for the type of surface on which you will find yourself riding. The itinerary winds partly along municipal roads with asphalted surfaces and open to road traffic, where we advise you to take great care, and partly on off-road routes that are easy to travel, wide and free of any particular technical pitfalls.
The route starts from the Santuario di Vicoforte, also known as the Santuario della Madonna, or the Basilica della Natività di Maria Santissima or the Regina Montis Regalis sanctuary-basilica. Located in the municipality of Vicoforte in Cuneo, it is one of the most important monumental churches in Piedmont, whose dome - with an elliptical horizontal section - is thought to be the largest one of this shape in the world.
From the square, turn left and take the road that climbs towards Moline, swinging onto Via delle Charole first and then onto Via dei Martini.
Continue slightly uphill, on an asphalted surface, until you come to Strada dei Gavi. Here, having passed the curve, continue on the dirt road through the woods and chestnut groves in the surroundings of the Sanctuary and you will arrive in Giacobba. Continue climbing steadily on the asphalted road, and after a few kilometres you will begin the descent along the Valle Corsaglia, marked by the river of the same name. Once you get to Corsagliola, the road starts to rise again. From here continue to the Pra di Roburent area, which can be reached after facing a challenging climb on an asphalted road of about 3 km.
Pra di Roburent is a small mountain hamlet of Val Corsaglia, perched on top of Mount Alpet at an altitude of 1,014 metres. The centre of the hamlet is part of the municipality of Roburent, although it consists of various hamlets and scattered houses, and so also extends into the municipality of Montaldo di Mondovì. We advise you to stop in the only square in front of the church, enriched by a fountain, where you can admire the beautiful murals located under the characteristic portico of the church.
After crossing the small village, turn left and take the road that climbs slightly to Vernagli. Here you can stop and savour the delicious dishes of the Maddalena Refuge and admire a wonderful 360 ° panorama. Setting off again from Vernagli, continue downhill towards the hamlet of San Giacomo di Roburent from where you will then head towards Serre Pamparato. Here you will have to go down a steep descent of about 3 km, which will lead you to Pamparato. Visit the town centre if you have any time left. Follow the last stretch of descent on asphalt to reach the starting point.
