CIMA DELLE MANSE
VALLÉE DE L'UBAYETTE
A lovely itinerary on the border, starting at the first bend on the road from Colle della Maddalena that descends into France. The excursion offers spectacular views of nearby Mount Oronaye and the surrounding rock towers. It is often one of the first feasible routes early in the season.

Cima delle Manse is often recommended as ideal for beginners. However, there is a steep final slope that should not be underestimated in the event of heavy snowfall and firm or frozen snow.

Start the climb on the left side (orographic right of Vallon de l'Oronaye) alternating long diagonals with more direct sections to make the most of the terrain and stay up high above the stream, to which most slopes drop down.
After rising by about 350 metres in altitude and passing through an area with massive boulders, a large plateau is reached where the valley forks, rising to the right towards Lac d'Oronaye and Colle di Roburent.
Then continue straight on over splendid, slightly steeper slopes towards Col Villadel. After climbing by about another 200 metres, the route reaches the feet of a large basin which, on the left, forms a large amphitheatre dominated by the peak.
Enter this basin and climb up the slopes below the peak seeking to exploit the terrain as far as possible by avoiding the steepest and possibly icy sections: on reaching the flat ridge, follow it briefly up to the top.
Descend along the outward route; starting from below Monte della Signora, it is almost always advisable to ski on the orographic left side of the stream and rejoin the uphill itinerary near the car park.
