CIMA DELLE LOSE
VALLE STURA
Cima delle Lose is one of the finest classic itineraries for ski mountaineers from Cuneo itself. Northwards exposure, moderately steep slopes and the stunning Argentera pine woods mean that as of the first autumn snows this is always one of the most sought-after and popular itineraries. However, always bear in mind that, just like all the peaks in the upper Stura valley, Cima delle Lose is often affected by strong winds, frequently from the west across the border with France, which create snow drifts on the leeward slopes: It is therefore essential to evaluate the surface conditions carefully before tackling this itinerary since, especially on the steep slopes of the final gully, slabs of windswept snow often endure for a long time.
The Argentera pine forest itself is a beautiful option for short ski mountaineering excursions through to the end of the woods if the snow coverage conditions are not very stable higher up.

Starting off from the village of Argentera, cross the small bridge over the River Stura and begin to climb through the steep larch woods, where skiers often leave clear tacks. It veers slightly and constantly to the left towards Cima delle Lose. After climbing by about five hundred metres in altitude, the forest comes to an end and opens into the start of a gentle valley facing the north-eastern spurs of Cima Lose. It gradually turns in a southerly direction towards the upper slopes of Mount Incianao.
After reaching the base of these slopes (trip possible), the itinerary continues in the wide, steep gully that culminates a few metres below the summit.
Descend along the outward route. There is a wide choice of alternative routes once in the pine forest.
